Baer’s Pochard
Breeding in Amur, Ussuri, and Northeast China, it winters in Thailand, Southeast China, Assam and Myanmar. It is a rare winter migratory bird in Korea.

Distribution and Habitat
Breeding in Amur, Ussuri, and Northeast China, it winters in Thailand, Southeast China, Assam and Myanmar. It is a rare winter migratory bird in Korea.
Behavior
Often flocks with Common Pochard or Tufied duck in winter. They forage on and under the water, where they feed on water plants, roots and seeds, and also fish.
Characteristic
Similar to Ferruginous Duck, but the broad white bar on the belly reaches to the front ofthe flank. The white on the wings does not reach the primaries.
Male
From the head to the neck is black with a green sheen. The pupil is white, the flanks are mostly brown with white on the front of the flank. The under tail covert is white.
Female
Head and nape are dark brown. Reddish brown opaque spots in front of eyes. The iris is brown and the white pattern on the flank is smaller than the male.
Status
Categorized as Critically Endangered on the IUCN Red list.
